Tips for Headshots
- Choose neutral colours. Tops in solid, neutral colours like black, white, grey, or navy keep the focus on your face and expression.
- Fit matters. Wear clothes that fit well, not too tight and not too loose. Properly fitted clothing looks best on camera.
- Keep the style minimal. Avoid loud patterns and large logos that distract from your face.
- Natural makeup. Aim for a natural look that enhances your features. Light foundation, a touch of blush, and subtle lip colour improve on-camera appearance.
- Well-groomed appearance. Keep hair neat and simply styled. Long hair pulled back from the face highlights your features.
- Good posture. Stand or sit straight with your shoulders back. Posture conveys confidence.
- Relaxed expression. Practice a natural smile or a calm, serious expression. Aim for approachability.
- Eye contact with the camera. Direct eye contact conveys confidence. Keep your eyes open and alert.
- Check your glasses. Make sure no reflections obscure your eyes. Anti-reflective coatings work best for photo shoots.
- Rest well before the shoot. A good night’s sleep helps you look refreshed; tired eyes show under the camera.
